Hypnosis can be described in a hundred and more ways: you can look at it as a bridge to the subconscious mind, a state of altered consciousness and focused attention or simply deep relaxation. There is nothing magical about hypnosis; it is a natural state of mind. As a matter of fact, it is a phenomenon that all of us know very well because it occurs in everybody, everyday.

You will know hypnotic trances whenever you get absorbed in something so much that you blend out the environment around you for a while. This may happen for example when you drive a car and you arrive at your chosen destination without remembering parts of your journey – as if you were missing a piece. It can happen in fact any time you do a routine task where your logical thinking mind is not involved and you find yourself day-dreaming, simply drifting with your mind.

This natural ability of your mind to drift is induced through physical relaxation and used therapeutically.

Hypnosis is a very relaxing, pleasant and potentially deep experience. However, there is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling - it is a unique experience and it can be practised. It is called conscious hypnosis because you are aware of everything around you, as well as of the activity in your mind- in fact you are in control of the process; β€œit” will happen as much as you allow it to.

Hypnosis is not a therapy; rather therapy is carried out in hypnosis.
